Ch.17&adobe


1.Describe the nurse in your own words.
She was beautiful, and had really white teeth that looked nice with her dark skin.

2.Why were Ishmaels friends teasing him about? Have you ever been in that situation.
His friends were teasing him about liking the nurse. I have not been in that situation.

3.What did your friends tease you about?
My friends tease me about being weird.

4.What did the nurse tell Ishmael about them being friends?
She told him that if he wants to be his friend he has to ask her and earn her trust.

5.When he was talking to the nurse he was quiet in the beginning, and he stated he didn’t trust anyone in his life. Why does he feel this way? Give me examples.
He feels like this because he feels people befriend others to exploit them. The lieutenant, made him question adults trust especially.

6.Have you ever been in a situation where you feel the same as Ishmael?
Yes i have felt like i can not trust a lot of people. But now i do not care. I have nothing to hide.

7.What did the nurse give Ishmael?
The nurse gave him a Walkman, and a Run DMC cassette.

8.How does Ishmael respond when he unwraps the gift? Why??
He was very happy, but realized how he was acting so he stopped.

9.Describe when Ishmael shot the prisoners that had allegedly shot him.

10.What was Esther’s response to Ishmael’s story?
She felt really bad for him, but didn't know whether to hug him or rub his head.

11.Why didn’t Esther want Ishmael taking the walkman with him?
She didn't want him to take it because then other boys would want to steal it.

12.What stood out to you the most about his story of his past ? why/?
The thing that stood out most about is that he really didnt notice or seemed to care about being shot.

13. What do you think about his lieutenant?

I think his lieutenant is cruel, for brain washing little boys and making them fight.

14.Has he ever been injured? Tell me what happened.
Ishmael was shot during a fight with the rebels. He was going unconscious and had to be taken care of or else he could of died.

15.What did Ishmael see when he tried to remember his child hood?
Ishmael would remember himself slicing another mans throat.

16.Explain his surgery, how did the doctors fix him up. Detail
The doctor started working before the drugs kicked in. The doctor stuck a crooked looking scissors inside the wound and fished for the bullet.

17.What is the worst thing you have ever endured?explain.
The worst think I have ever endured was having my ankle caught in a bicycle wheel.

18.What did he do right after he gained consciousness?
When Ishmael gained consciousness he started cleaning his weapon.

19.What did he do to the “people responsible for his foot”
To make the prisoners suffer, Ishmael shot them in the feet and then waited a day to kill them. He was irritated by the look in their eyes.

20.When he gets flashbacks, how does he feel? Have you ever received flashbacks, what are they of?
Ishmael feels overwhelmed with his flashbacks. I have flashbacks of mean things i have said to a certain someone.

21.Why did Esther come on her Day off?
Esther came to take Ishmael to the doctor and to give him a tour of the city.

22.What cassette did the field worker buy him at the market?
The field worker bought Ishmael the Bob Marley cassette.

23.Why do you think song writing is a passion for Ishmael?
I think he like it because it relaxes him and he loves music, and everything that has to do with music.

24.Have you ever written a song? Why?
No i have never.

25.Why did Ishmael like the story of Rastafarianism and King Solomon and the queen of Sheba?
He liked it because he related to it. He to traveled the long distance and was driven to achieve his goal.

26.He listens to Bob Marley to avoid nightmares, what is your favorite song from marley? Why?
What phrase did Ishmael start to believe?
My favorite song is three little birds. I like it because it is a happy song.
He started to believe that everything that happened was not his fault.

Esther is like a savior for him, who is your person that has helped you out of your rut?
Yes, my family has helped me out many times.

Why did Ishmael like talking to Esther?
Ishmael liked talking to Esther because she would listen.

The two teenagers had a long conversation and got to know one another.

Doing taxes is sometimes can be burdensome.

In Seaport village they have wharfs. Some are very beautiful.





cringe:to shrink, bend, or crouch, esp. in fear or servility; cower.

I cringe at the thoughts of rats.





genuine:possessing the claimed or attributed character, quality, or origin; not counterfeit; authentic; real

The couple was genuinely happy when they committed to each other in their wedding.




anguish:excruciating or acute distress, suffering, or pain

The football player were filled with anguish after loosing the game.





rastafarianism:a religious cult, originally of Jamaica, that regards Africa as the Promised Land, to which all true believers will someday return, and the late Haile Selassie I, former emperor of Ethiopia, as the messiah.

I think that rastafarianism is interesting.





destination:the place to which a person or thing travels or is sent

Every Morning i wake up at 6:40 to prepare for destination, school.





Somber:gloomily dark; shadowy; dimly lighted

Simon was somber after hearing all the horrible singers.

Ch.16 &adobe





1. What made him infuriated ?

Civilians. because it infuriated him when they would tell him what to do.


2.How did they feel about attending scheduled medication checkups?

They hated it.


3.What was the result of them not having drugs?

withdrawals.


4.What do they do to the cooks? why?

They placed a bucket over the cook's head and pushed him around the kitchen until he burned his hand.


5.Have you ever bullied anyone, what did you do?

No i never bullied someone.


6.What was happening to the drugs in his system? What did he do because of it?

He craved cocaine and marijuana, so he stole all these different types of pills from the nurse and powdered all them together and took them.


7.Can you relate to his cravings? what have you craved so badly that made you do something crazy?

No i can not relate to his cravings.


8.what do they do in between meals? give me examples from chapter of what they would do.

They would fight for hours, they would destroy most of their furniture and throw their mattresses out in the yard.


9.Why do you think the staff members would come back after getting beaten up?

I think they would come back because it was not their fault why they were like that.


10.who is Poppay? and what did they want from him? why?

He was the man in charge of storage. They wanted dry mattresses from him because they had thrown their own mattresses outside.


11.How would you feel if you were a staff member and had to go through this every day?

I would quit.


12.Why was he getting so many migraines?

He was getting migraines because of his withdrawals.


13.what did they do to the classroom? what happened to him because of it?

He decided to punch glass windows and his hand got stuck in the glass. He had to go the hospital.


14.What did they do with the school supplies? How did they get them?

They would burn their school supplies, then they sold them to a vendor. They would get them from the people

from where they were going to school at.


15.Where did they go after breakfast?

To Free Town.


16.When they went to villages what are they scouting for?

drugs, food and other things they could find.


17.tell one incident that happened at a village.

A few of the soldiers went to find a village, it was supposed to take a few days but it took a shorter amount of days. They attacked the village alone.

Rambo.


19.What do you think of them now? what disguises you about what they are doing?

I think these boys are annoying. I would be so mad if they were acting like immature kids when people are trying to help them.

Green Snake, because he would be sneaky, and he blends in nature like a green snake.

There was big shops on both sides of the street, and venders crowded the tiny sidewalks.


24.Describe what the informal school was like?

They would learn math, English, they would also play sports, get fed. It was just like any other school, except they lived there.


25.He tried to sleep without medicine, what would happen to him? what were some things that kept him up or wake him up?

He would think about the war and all the bad memories that cam along with the war.

The rainy season were between May and October, with the heaviest rainfalls in July, August, and September.

They got on the bus anyways, and pushed the bus driver and ran off the bus.

They would fight, and also sit outside on their mattresses that they pulled outside.

They were going through withdrawals, and they had bad dreams about the war.

They didn't want to give up on them, and wanted to let them know that.

I am a civilian, and so is everyone else walking the streets of China.

The Heimlich maneuver helps people who are choking.

Kiosk at the mall usually have a list of stores who are hiring.


Apprentice: a person who works for another in order to learn a trade

In the show the apprentice, several people tried out to be an apprentice.



Looted: spoils or plunder taken by pillaging, as in war


The house was looted after the bombing because of the war.

Ch.15&adobe



1.How long have they been fighting for? How do they feel.

They have been fighting for five year. They feel normal , they have all gotten used to their life how it is.


2.Who arrived at the village? Describe.

The UNICEF had arrived at their village. The lieutenant chose some people and sent them with the UNICEF to start school and begin another life.


3.What did he considered his home and his family?

He considered the villages that they had captured and turn into their base as his home, and his family was the squad he fought with.


4.How long had he been fighting for? How old was he now?

He had been fighting for five years, He started fighting at the age of ten, but he was already 15.


5.What did he want to hear from Jumah ? Does that surprise you?

He wanted to hear war stories and how many people he had killed during the war. I t does not surprise me, his situation had made him like that.


6.What did the boys chat about all night?

They were talking about who they killed during the war, and other war stories.


7.Where are these men taking the 15 soldiers? Who would you feel if you had to leave your friends at war?

The men are taking the soldiers to some sort of rehabilitation center.


8.How did ishmael feel when he was in the truck? What was thinking of doing?

He was angry, he was thinking of taking their guns and pushing them off the truck and going back with the rest of his squad.


9.If they are all around the same age why would they want to fight each other?

They want to fight each other because that is what they are used to, and because they think they are rebels.

11.What did Ismael do to the man that tried to search him?

He pushed im and told him if he touched him he would kill him.


12.How do you think Ishmael is feeling?

I think he is confused, he got so used to fighting and killing that that is all he is used to now.


13.What did Ishmael see after passing the last checkpoint?

He saw manned soldiers all dressed in complete army pictures.


14.What happened after the new arrivals came in to the kitchen?

They started argueing with each other.


15.What did the boy have a tattoo of? What happened after?

He had a tattoo of RUF, the rebels ended up fighting against the army.


16.What cheered the boys up after the fight? Why.

How they dealt with the rebels.


17.Where did the military vehicles transport them to?

They took them to another rehabilitation center in Kissy Town at the outskirts of Freetown.


18.How did Ishmael feel in his new rehabilitation center?

He was jut curious about why he was there.


19.What did Ishmael do that scared the other boys that were trying to get crazy with Ishmaels' friends?

He took out his grenade.


20.What did the little rebel boy say was the reason he was fighting with RUF?

He said the army was the enemy, and that hey fought for freedom, and that the army killed and destroyed his village.


21.Was the refugee camp helping the boys ‘rehabilitate’?

No, they have a lot of work to do.


22.What happened to people trying to break up the fight?

They got stabbed or had guns pointing at them.


23.How many people were killed during the fight? Which sides were they from?

6 people died. 2 were from the armies side, and four were from the rebels side.

In the movie Apocolypto they capture the main characters tribe and use their bodies for sacrifice.
