The men were dark as charcoal and had really red eyes.

They had been walking for about 2 days, he didn't really remember.

The village was always full of lively chattering and laughter. Soldiers would socialize with civilians. The civilians seemed like they were comfortable and felt safe.
4. Why did Ishmael distance himself from the games? What was going on with him?
He was to distracted with all the thoughts running through is head.

He dreamed he had been shot in the head, as he was lying there a dog started licking his blood getting ready to eat him. I had dreamed about someone breaking into my house trying to kill my family and dog.

He was a tall thin man with hardly any hair, his eyes were big, he also had full cheekbones, he was a quiet individual. His quietness had a forceful authority, all the men feared him or respected him.

Yes Ishmael joins to fight the rebels. I would also. There is a the same chance of dying whether or not he fights the rebels or not.

He shows them two dead people who tried leaving the village and got killed by the rebels.

Yes i do, it makes all the civilians feel as if they can stop the war, or try.

They practiced stabbing bananas with bayonets. They also practices shooting. They also only had 60 seconds to eat.

It was used to help them practice stabbing with a bayonet.

I think he is safer than he was. He at least has a gun now.

Everybody was happy, cheerful, they felt safe.

The soldiers preparing to fight.

They would clean their guns,smoked cigarettes and marijuana, some sat alone, while others gambled and joked with each other.

To keep himself distracted

He felt so happy that he felt every nerve in his body had awoken.

He would stare into space.

From stressing out, and everything he has went through.

He was young, bald, and his countenance made him look much older. He had an intense face that look, even smiling, as if her were chewing something sour.

It made him feel as if he was really good at speaking english.

It meant that all the rest of the soldiers were killed.

They shot them in the head.

The rebels killed them as they were trying to escape the village.

The rebels would force sons to have sex with their own mother, they would rip open pregnant ladies stomachs and kill the baby inside, they would also cut babies in half, and do other terrible things.
15. Where were women and children supposed to go? Men and boys?
Women were supposed to go to the kitchen, and men and boys were supposed to go to the ammunition depot.

Sheku and Josiah were Ishmael's tent companions, they were the youngest boys.

They were burned with all the rest of his belongings, which were just his pants.
18. How do you think the soldiers who were coming back from the front lines felt?

They would tell them to visualize the enemy, the rebels who killed your parents, your family, and those responsible for everything that has happened to you.
20. When he finally could think, what was he thinking about?
Agonizing- to suffer extreme pain or anguish; be in agony.
Getting stabbed is an agonizing feeling.

Complemented- having a complement or complements.
The Pretty lady got complemented so many times, she turned stuck up and annoying.

Latrines- A communal toilet of a type often used in a camp or barracks
Ishamael and the other civilians have to use latrines to go to the bathroom.

There a various ethnicities throughout San Diego.

Gruesome- causing great horror; horribly repugnant; grisly
The lady may have been rich, but she was still gruesome.

Dilemma- a situation requiring a choice between equally undesirable alternatives
It was such a dilemma when the married lady could not choose between her fiance or her ex husband.

Megaphone- a cone-shaped device for magnifying or directing the voice, chiefly used in addressing a large audience out of doors or in calling to someone at a distance
The principle use his megaphone during the fire drill to make sure everyone heard him.

Tarpaulin- a protective covering of canvas or other material waterproofed with tar, paint, or wax
The tarpaulin was helpful when there was a hole in the roof.

Dilapidated- to cause or allow (a building, automobile, etc.) to fall into a state of disrepair, as by
misuse or neglect (often used passively)
The dilapidated house was going to be knocked down in a few days, there was no use of it anyways.

Countenance- appearance, esp. the look or expression of the face
The countenance on the crazy guys face changed every minute.

Cherishing- to hold or treat as dear; feel love for
The expecting mother cherished her belly, because her baby was in there.
